Present in Portugal since 1923, Nestlé is one of the most recognized companies in the food industry worldwide, being responsible for brands as diverse as Nespresso, Cerelac or Purina. Having been awarded first place in the Healthy Workplace Awards in 2015, Nestlé Portugal decided to renew its headquarters in Linda-a-Velha as a way of maintaining its commitment to safety, health and well-being in the workplace.

In addition to the building's renovation, this project is a true cultural transformation, promoting a more collaborative and transversal way of working. More than a thousand employees can take their children to the office, meet in the garden, take yoga classes, or do agricultural experiments in the organic garden at the renovated headquarters.

Organized in 18 anchor points, created around Nestlé's business units, the interior was built by Vector Mais, with a project by Openbook studio, around the theme of the nest. This important symbol of the brand is the base to promote communication and relationships between employees through a comfortable space adapted to the new work realities.

"On the other hand, this project has a sustainability dimension that is one of the fundamental pillars and a reflection of Nestlé's values and principles. From materials to infrastructures, such as led lighting, green spaces, solar panels, and reuse of materials, this mindset is evident. We made this more visible through a LEED certification, attributed for the first time in Portugal in a renovation project," says Alexis Pinheiro, Workplace Solutions Manager, Nestlé.

This transformation focuses on the Home-to-Nest concept. A place where we take root, where we feel safe, which promotes a sense of belonging and community. A place where we are constantly challenged, where we develop and learn through collaboration and sharing experiences. A place where we create relationships and find the quality of life. A call to nature. A sustainable Campus that promotes health and well-being. Last but not least, a brand owns the nest. It is an appeal to Nestlé’s culture and values. It is part of the brand’s DNA. It is part of all of us.
— Alexis Pinheiro, Workplace Solutions Manager, Nestlé
Quality of life and the concept of caring, as fundamental pillars of Nestlé’s purpose, were the guiding thread of the building’s renovation project to transform the workplace into a more flexible, collaborative and sustainable space. Openbook designed the new headquarters to encourage a sense of community and interaction with nature. A project with a holistic view of the Campus, where the focus on the ‘human figure’ is the priority.
